Once you arrive in Accra, you will be warmly received after going through immigration and customs. You will be picked up by our cultural guide and transferred in a private air-conditioned vehicle to your hotel in Accra. Check in at your hotel, relax and prepare for the next day’s activities. You will have a brief orientation with your guide on what to expect during your stay in Ghana.

• The Du Bois Web Centre was created in recognition of the lives of prominent pan-Africanists who chose to live and work in Ghana. The Centre is a pan-African place of thought and hosts a conference room, as well as a memorial/museum documenting the life of Du Bois and highlighting the role of Ghana in Pan-Africanism.
• We will continue to Independence Square, where you will see the flame of the liberation of Africa lit by Dr Kwame Nkrumah in 1961. The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, with its attractive gardens and museum, is an ideal place to learn more about the first President of Ghana. It also serves as the final resting place for the late President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah after his previous burial in Guinea and Nkroful, his hometown.
• Our day’s tour ends at Jamestown Community, Accra’s oldest city. It is the most historic area where history resides on every corner. Best known for its lighthouses (the first of which was built in 1875 by the British) as a navigational aid for merchant ships sailing in the Gulf of Guinea. The original structure was ruined but a larger and more improved lighthouse was completed in 1921.
• You can visit the «House of Brazil» which is famous for the Afro-Brazilian history that hides behind it. Built in 1836 and completed 100 years after 1638, this historic house serves as a museum to present historical memories revealing previous centuries of migration to Ghana by Africans from Brazil and Portugal

Early in the morning, start a scenic route to Kumasi, the seat of the Ashanti empire, to explore the legends of the famous Ashantis, whose legacy is still evident today. Founded in 1695 by the Asantehene (King) Osei Tutu, Kumasi features palaces, forts, museums and churches that provide a distinct backdrop for important festivals and ceremonies that are still of great importance to the people. The Ashantis are one of the largest Akan ethnic groups in Ghana. For centuries, they ruled this region because of their well-organized society.

Kumasi may surprise you, being the most dynamic market in West Africa and the second largest city in Ghana with a population of nearly three million.

We visit the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum where we have a glimpse of the history and culture of the Ashanti kingdom where you will see a replica of the famous golden stool, which would have descended from heaven and is the spiritual symbol of the Ashanti People. You will also attend an exhibition on local folklore and get information on local crafts.

Today you will visit Ashanti craft villages. Learn about woodcarving in the village of Ahwiaa, known for the talented craftsmen who fashion royal stools, walking sticks and fertility dolls from wood. You will have the opportunity to purchase a variety of hand-carved items.
Your next stop is the village of Ntonso, where artisan’s hand-stamp patterns on cotton cloth to make Adinkra textiles.
Later, visit Bonwire, where the famous Kente cloth is handmade on looms in a time-honored tradition passed down through generations. Observe the Kente weavers creating the traditional Kente cloth.
Late afternoon visit Manhiya Palace, official residence of Ashanti Kings (Asantehene) until 1974, now a museum containing treasured items relating to the Ashanti Kingdom.

This morning, we will depart Kumasi for Cape Coast after completing our tour of Kumasi. 

Upon arrival in Elmina, embark on a picturesque tour of Elmina township, which was the first destination of Europeans in Sub-Saharan Africa. It used to be the most cosmopolitan city in tropical Africa. As you walk through the ancient town of Elmina and down to the harbor, you are greeted by colorful fishing canoes getting ready to go to sea for another night’s task of fishing. This a perfect picture opportunity for photographers. 

This evening, you will attend scheduled PANAFEST activities in the company of your tour guide.

Following a restful morning and breakfast, you can decide on one of the following two activities: 

• Enjoy leisure at your hotel sunbathing along the Atlantic Ocean or have a cool icy dip in your hotel’s swimming pool  
• Visit Kakum National Park in Ghana. It has one of Africa’s famous rainforest canopy walkways. This canopy walkway will be one of the highlights of your time in Ghana. Prepare to take a deep breath while you walk the suspended bridge and marvel at the breathtaking views that stretch for miles across the rainforest. 

This evening, you will attend scheduled PANAFEST activities in the company of your tour guide.

This morning, you will visit Elmina castle where you will explore the grounds and rooms full of haunting history. The 14th-century fortress was built by the Portuguese in 1482. This UNESCO World Heritage site was originally known as St. George’s Castle. 

Stroll down to the beach for a memorial ceremony where participants will throw bread into the waters as a way of remembering those who died during the middle passage. 

This evening, attend scheduled PANAFEST activities in the company of your tour guide.

After breakfast, we drive through small villages to Assin Manso, the burial site of two former slaves from the U.S. and Jamaica whose remains were re-interred in August 1998 during Ghana’s first Emancipation Day celebration. You can see the ‘slave river’ where enslaved Africans were washed before being confined in the castles to await shipment to the Americas and the Caribbean.

Don’t miss this special event that showcases the pomp and pageantry of Ghana’s traditional rulers, dressed in fine ceremonial traditional clothing adorned in glittering gold jewelry and traditional beads for the Emancipation Day Celebration at Assin Manso. 

At the sound of the ‘’fontomfrom’’ drum, you will feel the African rhythm in you as you dance to the beat.  

The evening is crowned off with a farewell dinner at the hotel.

After breakfast, check out of your hotel and say goodbye to your newfound friends as you return to Accra. Arrive in Accra early afternoon. 

Your driver and guide will assist you with any last-minute shopping including your custom-made outfits. You will have a day-room to relax before you are transferred to the airport for your flight home.
