The Republic of the Congo is home to approximately 125,000 western lowland gorillas. They inhabit its tropical swamp forests, alongside chimpanzees, forest elephants and hundreds of species of birds. Tapestry of pristine tropical forests, savannas, rivers and bays, this true wilderness reopens to tourism from September 2021 with easy access and PCR testing for your organized return trip to camp.

Explore remote Odzala-Kokoua National Park in search of lowland gorillas and other wildlife, and spend time with knowledgeable primatologists to learn more about these incredible creatures.

Travel through the wonderfully wild Congo in search of lowland gorillas, chimpanzees, forest buffaloes, and maybe even a bongo. Rich in wildlife, you will embark on a real adventure here – and maybe even enjoy a fishing spot with release.

Day 1ARRIVAL - BRAZZAVILLE

Upon arrival at Maya Maya International Airport (BZV) in Brazzaville, you are greeted and transferred to your hotel for the night. Here you have the chance to relax after your flight and before the adventures of the next few days. Depending on your time of arrival in Brazzaville, there is an option for an afternoon city tour.

Day 2BRAZZAVILLE - CAMP NGAGA

Board the regular light plane flight today from Brazzaville to Ngaga Camp to begin your lowland gorilla safari. Upon arrival, you will be greeted with cold towels and a welcome drink before checking in and having lunch. Meet your group before embarking on a forest walk with your guide to show you various species of local flora and fauna. Back at camp you will meet the Gorilla Research Team who will tell you all about the work they are undertaking here which is sure to spark your excitement for your next gorilla treks. Dine on a three-course meal before removing your room for your early departure the next day.

Day 3GORILLA TREK AND FOREST WALK

Wake up at dawn to start your day with a light breakfast before setting out at 6am on your first gorilla hike. Meet your expert guide and tracker who will accompany you for the day. Depending on the location of the gorillas, the duration of the treks can vary from two hours to a full day. Once you’ve located the gorillas, enjoy the moment and quietly capture these incredible creatures on camera. Return to Ngaga Camp for lunch. In the afternoon, take a guided walk to experience forest life and birds ending at the river for sunsets. End your evening with a drink around the fire and another three-course meal.

Day 4FINAL GORILLAS TREK AND NIGHT WALK

Wake up early again today for another gorilla hike. Whenever possible, the team will try to locate another gorilla family group, however, even if you see the same group again, the experience will be fascinating. Take the time to step away from the camera to really enjoy the moment. In the afternoon you will have the chance to experience another forest walk with an expert guide, you will keep an eye out for unique birds and primates. The forest walk continues in the evening to discover the nightlife of the forest. Back at camp, have a drink and dinner with your fellow travelers and discuss the day’s events.

Day 5NGAGA CAMP - VISIT OF THE VILLAGE – MBOKO CAMP

Enjoy a relaxed morning at camp, with an optional 3rd gorilla hike (additional cost $ 285). Transfer at the end of the morning of approximately 2h30 of road to the camp of Mboko. Stop at Mbomo village for a bit of Sunday village life before arriving at camp and settling in time for lunch. In the afternoon, get ready for your boat safari along the Lekoli River. Look for unique species on your trip, such as forest elephants, buffaloes, sitatunga, and a range of primates. Return to camp for dinner.

Day 6MBOKO CAMP – LANGO CAMP

After an early breakfast to watch to see which animals make an appearance, set off on a kayaking excursion on the Lekoli River. Keep your eyes peeled for forest buffaloes and colobus monkeys as you gently descend the river. Park your kayak on the banks and go for a walk through the forest where you meet your guide and for a short game drive to the camp. Your luggage will have its own adventure, carried by porters, just like the explorations of yesteryear. Arrive at camp for lunch and afternoon free looking from your vantage point towards the marshy bay in front of the camp which attracts huge flocks of African green pigeons and African gray parrots, and at night, forest elephants.

Day 7LANGO BAÏ

Today is your chance to explore the surroundings of Lango Camp. Head to Les Bais on foot and enjoy close encounters with wild animals such as forest elephants. Return to Camp Lango for lunch before choosing to relax at camp or go for an adventure walk. Back at the lodge, join the research team for an evening presentation on what was filmed on the camera traps.

Day 8LANGO CAMP – MBOKO CAMP

Early breakfast at the camp, savoring the sunrise over the virgin forest. Look for the multitude of resident bird species that make this forest their home, nearly 2,560 species are found there due to the diversity of pristine habitats this region offers. Safari transfer followed by an elevated wooden path through the swamp to Mboko camp which will be your home last night in Odzala-Kokoua, your luggage following you again. Add to your number of birds or look for the red bush pig and harnessed bushbuck that we see regularly around the camp. After lunch, you have the option of a river cruise on the Lekoli River or a final adventure ride on the Likeni River.

Day 9MBOKO CAMP - BRAZZAVILLE - DEPARTURE

This morning, enjoy an early breakfast at camp before heading out. You will be driven back to the airstrip for your flight back to Brazzaville. Upon your arrival in Brazzaville, you will be greeted and assisted for your connection with your return flight.

DEPOSIT & FINAL PAYMENT

Payment of the deposit and / or full payment certifies that you understand and accept all of the terms and conditions.

These conditions apply to independent visits. Group tours have separate deposit and cancellation policies, which are specific to the tour. All payments, deposit payments and cancellation amounts shown are per person. To confirm a reservation, the following deposit and final payment terms must be strictly observed and are required at the time of booking.

The deposit due per person is £ 365 or 25% of the cost of the tour, whichever is greater. We reserve the right to request additional deposits required by hotels and suppliers for peak periods such (but not limited to) Christmas, New Years, Easter and other holidays. Final payments are due 45 days prior to the start of the tour. For reservations received within 45 days of commencement of services, the full amount must be submitted at time of confirmation. Bookings received within 45 days of the start of the tour may be subject to a non-refundable Urgent Booking Fee of at least £ 95 per person to cover additional expenses incurred to expedite the booking.

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS, PASSPORT, AND VISA REQUIREMENTS

Every traveller must be in possession of a current passport valid for at least six months after scheduled return date, round-trip airline ticket/continuation ticket, and adequate funds for the duration of the stay. Obtaining a passport is the responsibility of each traveller. All travellers must consult with the appropriate consulates to determine if any visas are needed. Securing needed visas is the responsibility of the traveller.

A pre-departure information packet containing helpful general information on the destination booked, visa application forms, details on our trip insurance plan, and the official tour registration form will be delivered to the booking agent or traveler upon receipt of the required tour deposit and confirmation of the tour. Final documents including trip itinerary, emergency contact information, any airline tickets, luggage tags, travel documents any necessary vouchers will be delivered no later than 30 days prior to start of the service, provided full payment has been received by NewAge Travel.

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS

Persons who are not fit to travel long because of health restrictions, such as chronic illness, physical disability, advanced pregnancy or mental illness, should not participate in rigorous travel programs. Passengers who fail to inform NewAge Travel of such a condition(s) will be subject to the cancellation penalties described above and will assume the full risk of travelling in this state. NewAge Travel is not responsible for providing medical care or special accommodation.

NewAge Travel and associated companies reserve the right to disqualify a tour participant at any time if, in their sole judgment, a tour participant is not deemed medically fit to travel. NewAge Travel and associated companies assume no responsibility for the provision of medical needs, updates and/or medical accommodation. Our pre-departure information will provide general recommendations for all vaccinations or precautions necessary for the destination(s) booked, however, it is the responsibility of the passengers to check with their healthcare professional, for specific requirements. Malaria is endemic in African regions and precautions must be taken. Consult your doctor for advice. Prior to travel, the required vaccines, if any, must be documented by each passenger’s health practitioner on a valid vaccination certificate, which the traveller must carry to prove inoculation, if necessary. If a traveller is concerned about taking medications or receiving certain vaccines, consult your healthcare provider BEFORE booking.

LUGGAGE

On tour, please note that scheduled internal flights have a baggage restriction of 33 lbs per person. We recommend soft carrying baggage. Baggage and personal effects remain at the owner’s risk throughout the tour. NewAge Travel and associated companies shall not be liable for any losses or damage to baggage and personal effects as a result of negligence by airport baggage agents, hotel staff or other personnel not employed by NewAge Travel and associated companies, including but not limited to airlines, courier services, cargo staff, and the like. One average sized suitcase will be carried on safari, however, passengers, who will be travelling by light aircraft on safari must carry medium sized soft luggage or duffel bags when flying sectors in small light aircraft which have limited space for baggage and a weight restriction to be advised. City hotels do store luggage for guests while they are out on tour/safari.
